By the time many people start writing their resume or interviewing, they’re feeling a lot of pressure and forget things to include in their resumes or to mention on an interview. Here is the simplest way I can think of to refresh your memory and get ready for both.
9 Ways People Sabotage Themselves on Interviews
One of the simplest ways to prepare for writing your resume, and interviewing is (Here it comes. Big drumroll). Download for performance reviews, not just for this firm, hopefully you have them for previous firms. But if you don’t, know for the future, always download your performance reviews. Why? Very simple.
Number one. And the big thing is, they are a reminder of things that you’ve done in the past that may not come to mind. Oh, you forget things, right? There was something important that you did. There’s a comment that a manager made to you in the review that talked about your success. Obviously, you don’t talk about the problem, things that occur, but focus on the successful things that you accomplished, that you’ll be reminded of from reading and rereading the performance reviews.
These have the tips for your resume. It also has the reminders for interviewing that, again, it may be out of mind and a quick skim of the performance review from now, and from your past will be helpful to you.
Now, obviously, you can’t get them from five years ago. You’re at a different firm, probably and it’s long since disappeared. But you can get them from your current firm, as long as you haven’t waited until you’ve walked out the door. So download them, get them, use them, and be ready.
