The Big Resume Mistake Non-Native Speakers Make | JobSearchTV.com
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
If you’re a non-native speaker of whatever country you’re in, this is a mistake that is easy to fix and too few people do. I mentioned Grammarly in the video. Use this link and minimally download the Chrome extension TheBigGameHunter.us/grammarly
Stupid Resume Mistakes: Showing Markups
If you’re a non-native speaker in whatever country you’re in, one of the mistakes that I find people make is that, number one, you don’t spell check your resume. You don’t grammar check your resume. And I would include using a Chrome extension like Grammarly. I’ll have a link to that in the show notes so that you ensure that the resume doesn’t have mistakes in spelling, or grammar.
And then you don’t do this one extra step that I think is really important, and that is to show it to a native speaker. Now as I’m recording this, I’m in the United States, but it doesn’t matter. Whatever country you’re in, this is a behavior that you should engage in. Show it to a native speaker to make sure there are no surprises. Because as good as Grammarly is, as good as all the spelling and grammar checkers are on whatever software you use, there may be nuances that will come back and hurt you that a native speaker would catch. So take that extra step and you’ll get better results.
