Interview Mistakes: Vomiting on People

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
No interviewer wants to feel like you won’t shut up How long should your answer be? What do I do if I need more time?

Interviewing with a Firm That Uses an Evidence Based Approach

Here’s a mistake that people make on their interviews much too often and that’s the mistake of talking too much, basking in your own magnificence, rambling, your answer goes on forever.

Here’s a fact. Most people don’t want to listen for more than a minute to a minute 15 seconds. Keep your answers to that long. If you don’t think that’s a long time, use your phone. Time it. You’ll be shocked at how much you can say in a [1:15] This video is going to be a minute. Less. And I’ve said a lot already.

So prepare in advance. Be prepared to answer questions in a [1:15]. And if you want to go further than that, just simply say, “And if you’d like, I can go into more detail.” This way, you’re not just vomiting all over them.

There’s a lot more on my website, . Go to the blog. Go exploring. Like I said a lot there to help you.
