I’m Pulling For You!
My friend, Greg, shared a story of breaking down a barrier between himself and someone he knew.
“A guy from my apartment complex came by where I was cooling off in the pool yesterday. I’ve been running into him for about a year and he never looks happy to see me. I don’t think he likes me too much. Maybe he doesn’t like himself too much. Strange thing is, I actually like him for some reason I can’t explain.
So I keep talking to him. And he keeps tolerating me, never looks at me, never tries to drive the conversation forward. But I keep talking to him. He tells me he’s trying to, “make ends meet.” So he studied for an exam to improve his situation. It occurs to me that maybe he’s just not happy. So, I say to him, good luck on your exam. I think you’ll do well. I’m pulling for you.
All of a sudden, he looks at me for the first time ever. His face brightens up. Before leaving, he makes a point to say goodbye to me. I think maybe these magic words are these are magic words. I’m pulling for you. I’m rooting for you. I want you to do well.
Maybe we all need to hear that more often. I know I do. So I’m going to be saying that more often. From now on. folks, I’m pulling for you. You’re watching this video. You want to have something a little bit different. I believe you can do and I’m rooting for you. I’m pulling for you.”
