If you’re an introvert, looking to improve your networking online, that’s what I’m going to talk with you about today. I’m Jeff Altman. The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search advice and career coaching globally, because I make the process of finding work and developing careers so much easier.

Today, I’m going to share some tips for how introverts can build an effective professional network online. I’ve got 10 of them and the first one is, start by curating your online presence. That’s your digital first impression. Make sure your social media profiles especially LinkedIn, reflect your skills, experiences, and aspirations clearly. Use a professional and approachable profile picture that can resonate with who you are and what you really look like. Nothing that’s five years old. Much more current, and have a smile on your face looking at the camera. Number two, embrace niche communities. Look beyond the mainstream platforms, and explore niche online communities related to your field of interest. These smaller focused communities could provide a space for introverts to engage and connect on shared interests. Number three, collaborate on projects. Instead of cold outreach, approach potential connections with collaboration in mind. identify individuals working on projects aligned with your interest and proposed value-added contributions. This approach not only builds your network, but also can showcase your skills. Four, leverage thoughtful content sharing. Share insightful articles, research papers, or even your own content that resonates with your professional interests. This positions you as a knowledgeable resource and encourages meaningful conversations with those who share your interests, offer value, comment, share useful information. Five, and this is a fun one, host virtual coffee chats. Initiate one-on-one virtual coffee chats with professionals who you admire. Prepare a few thought-provoking questions to foster engaging conversations. Remember these chats are not just about networking, but about learning from each other. And I know for some of you this will be hard, but it’s something that you might consider stretching to.

Number six, participate in webinars and live sessions. Join webinars and live sessions hosted by industry experts, participate actively by asking thoughtful questions and sharing your ideas. This can lead to interactions with both the hosts and fellow attendees. Seven utilize personalized video messages. Again, this could be a stretch for some of you, but maybe something to work up to. Stand out by sending personalized video messages instead of text based messages. A short video introducing yourself and expressing your interest in connecting can leave a lasting impression and humanize the networking process. There’s a product called Drift that I happen to use. I think it’s drift.co . You can record a short video. They’ll provide you with a link to it. And you can place it in LinkedIn messaging or other places and have it sent to people. Eight, leverage LinkedIn. Funny about that. I think it’s a great platform for introverts because you can join relevant industry groups, follow companies you’re interested in. Connect with professionals one one-on-one, and demonstrate your expertise by sharing content. Nine, platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, and online mentorship programs make it easier to learn from industry vets. Follow thought leaders in your field channel. Don’t overthink outreach. Keep intro messages, low pressure. Something as simple as asking for career advice can start a conversation.

And, I just want to remind you, set networking goals whether it’s five new LinkedIn connections per week, or one informational interview per month, goals keep you accountable to yourself. So to sum up, networking as an introvert can seem challenging, but by leveraging these 10 points, you can create meaningful connections that align with your personality and strengths. It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality so be authentic, engage genuinely and watch your network grow.
