Why Are You Looking for a New Job?

There is a bias against active job hunters in hiring. Corporate and third party recruiters have been trained to believe that active candidates are a lesser choice than what are referred to as passive candidates who are not actively looking for work. Thus, wherever possible, hide that you might be actively looking.
“I’m not actively looking for work but when Rhona/Ronnie the Recruiter reached out to me, they presented this role in a way that piqued my interest. I updated my resume and sent it to them for the role.”
If you applied for the job, you can say, I’m not actively looking for a position but when ZipRecruiter/Indeed/LinkedIn forwarded the job to me, it looked interesting so I updated my resume and submitted it.”
