Think Like a Brand | The No BS Coaching Advice Podcast

Branding is incredibly important and so few people do it. Here, I encourage you to change your thinking and help yourself.
There’s an old saw that says if a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound? Well, we know it makes a sound but we just don’t hear it. In job search, in career planning, the fact is if you do a great job and no one knows it, how is someone going to want to hire you?
You can blast out resumes, you can become a spammer. You’re going to be out there trying network . . . But that’s trying to make people know about you and It’s at the point where you’ve decided enough is enough and you’re out looking for a job. You see,what you want to be doing is setting up the circumstances where you think of yourself as a brand like Google does, like Facebook does, like GM does, like every major corporation does. They are brand that causes you to be attracted to them or, in some cases, of course, repelled by them and ,you know, it’s easier for them to sell to you because they’ve got good head space for you.
You already think favorably of them and, the result is, you want to buy their product or use their service. But as a human being, we don’t think of ourselves that way. But from a career standpoint we do .
So, you know, I’ll simply remind you that if you do great work and no one knows about it, it becomes hard for you to find a job. If you do great work and you’re always out marketing yourself or promoting yourself and doing things so that people know you well, it’s a lot easier.. And that’s the situation that you want to be doing.
After all the person who gets ahead isn’t always the smartest, work the hardest. . . Well, those are great qualities to have. People get ahead by being alert to opportunities. Most of the time, they are are external to their firm. I
