A conversation with a recent acquaintance sets the stage for this podcast.

Today’s show really comes from a session I did with someone who was talking about why she moved from one place to another and, in the conversation, she spoke about where she used to live as people being pretty dead, you know the flat affect. Yeah, let’s get honest here. She used to live in New York.

It’s a tough place to live. You commute on the subway. You can’t make eye contact for fear of … fill in the blank. You walk down the street. You may be in a good mood talking to the person that you’re speaking with and everyone’s in an island unto themselves. You live in a bubble. Even in your apartment building, there are other people you learn to nod to . . . But not a lot of real contact meaning.

The result winds up being, for her, this is how it was for her, and maybe for you, you start to get a little bit dead. You start the bottle up how you feel. You start to really get small. It’s such a subtle shift that occurs that you start to think that this is the way it has to be.

I want to encourage you, if you have a situation like this, stop. Really. Stop. You don’t have to be this way. You can live the way you want too and, so, if people think you’re a freak, who’s the real freak? Are the people who live in the box where they’re confined or you?  I think it’s them to be blunt with you.

So, really, go out. Have some fun. If you live in a major city, the next person. You see, smile and wave have a great day. Have some fun and don’t play by other people’s rules.
