The Easiest Way to Build a Personal Brand
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
We all know it’s important to build a personal brand, but where and how do you start? ‘I don’t have a lot of time. How can I do it easily?’ That’s what I cover here.
Job Interviews Falling Flat? Your Attitude May Be To Blame
I knew someone many years ago, who built her personal brand in the pre-social media days, in the pre-LinkedIn days, by cutting out articles, copying them,
and then mailing them to people who she thought would be interested in them, who represented a client base that she wanted to serve. And it worked. What she was able to do is to be seen as someone knowledgeable because she had curated information that was of value to other people that were in her target area.
Now, what can you do if you’ve never taken the time to build a personal brand? Well, it’s actually pretty simple. And it’s the modern equivalent of that. You curate articles, forward a link to someone or share it on socials, and say something to the effect of, ‘I know we’re all busy. So if you didn’t get a chance to see this on (whatever website it is), it’s definitely worth a read.
What’ll happen is over time, by sharing this information with people and on social media, they’re going to start to see you a little bit differently. They’re going to start to see you as someone who’s smart, knowledgeable, and somewhat expert in this area.
Thus, remember, the goal is to be known. The goal is to be seen and to be visible to those who might be a value to you, and who you can be a value to, as well in the future. Makes no difference. If you’re junior or very senior. Start sharing links with a note to that effect, like I said to you before, and you’re going to start the build a reputation for yourself with others as someone who’s knowledgeable and an expert in your field.
