Sacrifice | The No BS Coaching Advice Podcast

I was doing a coaching session listening to someone talk about “sacrifice. UGH! I don’t believe in sacrifice.

This is The No BS Coaching Advice Podcast.   I am your host, Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter.  I am the head coach for JobSearchCoachingHQ.com and NoBSCoachingAdvice.com.  The 1st site is worth focus on job hunters because, from me, I have listened to people and worked in search for a long time.  I know the job hunting doesn’t have to be hard, difficult or take a long time. NoBSCoachingAdvice.com is more general. It talks about life, the universe and everything.  It deals with the composite of life and helping people live the lives that they want.

I thought today, I would talk about something that turned up in the session I was doing with someone.  It is the notion of sacrifice.

Sacrifice is the term that frankly, I don’t care for, especially in the context of helping people live their lives well.  I’ll tell you why.

When people think of sacrifice, they think of deprivation.  So, for example, “I have to sacrifice what I enjoy in order to do something that I need to do,” is the way most people mean that term.

How about, “You made a choice.”  You make a choice to move your life forward in a way that’s equally important to you and perhaps MORE IMPORTANT to you.

You make a choice that you’re willing to do something different in order to accomplish something or achieve something that you want. You make a choice that if you continue doing things the way you’ve always done them you won’t get this piece.  It’s all about your choices. the fact of the matter is that if you can do it and conduct yourself with the old behavior, you would’ve already turned out for your own good already, right?

For example,  I will use myself as an example.  I have weighed more than I have wanted to at different times in life.  I can keep eating the way I wanted to and not get the result that I want which is losing weight or toning, right?  A year ago, I was at the heaviest weight ever been in my life and I had been trying to lose weight.  I just wasn’t successful.  The decision I made was to go to a woman who trained me so we worked out that you give me a diet to work from and the result was that I lost weight, I’m still not thin but I have lost weight, I feel great, I’m eating differently and I’m getting the results I want .by outsourcing my thinking to someone else.

Your version of that place where you could use an ally in this part of the journey.  You may be masterful and successful in so many places of your life but, in this 1,  it’s not working for you the way that you like. You know what that place is.

I hope you have a great day.  I hope you found the show helpful.  Take care.
