Prepare Your Pitch
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
LinkedIn’s AI generated a framework for a collaborative article. This is one of the sections to it.
Once you have a salary goal in mind, you need to prepare your pitch to convince the employer why you deserve it. This means highlighting your strengths, accomplishments, and contributions that are relevant to the job and the organization. You should also anticipate and address any possible objections or questions that the employer might have, such as your current salary, your salary history, or your salary expectations for the future. You should practice your pitch in advance and rehearse it with a friend, a mentor, or a coach. Preparing your pitch will help you communicate your value and interest with clarity and confidence.
I offered:
Have two numbers in mind when you start any negotiation–how much you are looking for and what offer would cause you to reject the offer. A recruiter may try to test the lower parameter to see if you will be flexible, particularly if an offer is going to be made. Deciding on the lower number in advance of any negotiation will help you decide with a cool head and not be influenced by the fear of you losing the job offer. It’s like gambling, having all your chips in and having decide whether to put more money on your credit card to risk. If you make the decision before you start the negotiation, you avoid losing more than you can afford (taking too low an offer) and resenting them and getting angry at yourself for succumbing to the pressure.
