Personal Branding: What Are Your Strengths | No BS Job Search Advice

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

Self-awareness is an important factor when it comes to identifying your strengths for career branding. It is based on life experiences and should be developed through new tasks, experiences, challenges, and successes. To identify your strengths, seek professional development opportunities, and try out new tasks outside your comfort zone. To learn more about the specific skills you can develop through new experiences, consider taking courses, shadowing co-workers, or supporting people in leadership positions.v

Self-awareness can help you recognize your strengths, which can help you decide on a career path and further hone your skills. By thinking about your strengths regularly, you will get a better understanding of them. You can also track your progress over time by reflecting on your strengths periodically. You may even find that you have gained new interests and talents that are in line with them. Once you know what strengths you possess, you can better position yourself for success and happiness in different fields as well as your current one.

All of this is fine but you still need to find out what employers want from someone. Once you have a clear idea of what that is or the different factors are, you can use them to redesign your resume and LinkedIn profile to emphasize them. Ultimately, your strengths will be the basis of your career strategy. Once you start brainstorming your strengths, you must decide which ones will be most relevant and effective for you. For example, do you have the ability to communicate effectively with others? If so, your signature strength may be leadership.

Knowing your strengths will help you in overcoming your weaknesses. While it may sound obvious, the best way to overcome your weaknesses is to recognize your special qualities and build upon them. Knowing your strengths will help you add value to your career and will help you win the job or career you want. It is also a sign of your emotional maturity and self-awareness.
