I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm the head coach for and Welcome to another episode of Job Search Radio.. You show, I like to spend a few minutes talking with you about some element of job search because, to me, it doesn't have to be as hard, difficult, painful or take as long as it does. It's just that the skills needed to find a job are different than those needed to do a job.

Here, on today's show, I'm going to tackle a question someone asked me--" Is it room to get a job to my parents' connections?"

I hope you for me as a helpful. I hope you give the show 5 stars in iTunes or stitcher. It helps other people discover the show. Now, you may dive into the answer.

What is a parents' connection anyway? It is not like the person is going to hire you sight unseen. Your parents are going to provide an introduction to someone who is in a position that they can influence a hire or evaluate you for a job. You are going to be evaluated for the job that you are introduced to. How is that different than networking anyway?

Your parents are in your network. That is the reality to. They have access to resources, you may want to capitalize on… Or not, depending upon your family. My dad was alive, he had a small business in New York and there was no one he could introduce me to who could help you find the job. You have that advantage; you have a person in your life who can provide such an introduction. How is that different than any other form of networking? Think about it. How is it any different?

I would say, very simply, don't hesitate because you still going to have to be interviewed. There is one exception. The exception is that in the situation where you are in money management. They are, if they are providing you with an introduction to a firm in order to be the person who manages their money, That is a more complicated scenario. The firm is basically hiring you to get their money. That is up to you as to whether or not you are comfortable with that.

I know people around the world in that kind of situation have no hesitation to be that kind of situation. Lord knows, when I was meeting people years ago, I met some very wealthy people who are hired by banks to do exactly that. That is the one place you may find it uncomfortable and may want to carve out your room path.

Otherwise, treat your parents, their friends, their professional relationships as extended parts of the network. Go out there and take the interviews. It is a network, right? Just because YOU didn't create the network doesn't mean that you can't take advantage of it.

I hope you found this helpful and there are couple of ways that I can help you in ways other than watching the show. That starts off the fact that, if you would like me to help you, I no longer do recruiting. I am a coach who helps people operate at an elite level.
