How to Write About Your Experience When You Have a Lot of It | JobSearchTV.com
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
With kudos to @Claire Davis on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/clairemdavis/ this is a great way to discuss your many years of experience in your resume (and in an interview, too).
Stupid Resume Mistakes: A Few Doozies!
Hi. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. And people hire me for no BS career advice. I work globally with people at a variety of different levels.
I spotted a quick video from Claire Davis on LinkedIn, where she talked about people with a lot of experience, the person with 20,25, 30, or more years of experience who leads off their resume immediately describing themselves as being older. Now, this isn’t about being older, but it’s about how to write about all that experience. . . .And it’s more important than the actual years.
So if you’re going to start off this way, 20 years of experience doing such and such, well, there’s an extra phrase that you need to complete it. And that is ‘resulting in.’
It’s kind of like the way I started off my introduction. People hire me for no BS career advice globally. In your case, you have 20 years of experience or more doing such and such resulting in . . . and then you’re going to complete that sentence, talking about the outcomes that you got that relate to the job that you’re trying to get, apply for, network to or whatever.
So again, ‘resulting in’ is the magic phrase. Kudos to Claire Davis. Hope you found this helpful. I’m Jeff Altman. My website is TheBigGameHunter.us. Go to the site; go exploring,.
