How Recruiters Steal Your Top People: You Take Them for Granted
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
One way recruiters are able to steal your best people is you take them for granted.
How Recruiters Steal Your Best People: Demanding Perfection
Recruiters are able to steal your top people because you start taking them for granted. Compare the amount of attention you give them when you’re trying to
hire them. You’re talking constantly with them. You made offers; you’re trying to be personally persuasive.
And then they go to work for you. And it doesn’t seem like you care as much. It’s the grind. It’s doing the job. It’s humdrum, and they feel it. The romance is gone.
If you want to change that, start giving your people more positive attention. Make them feel like you care.

I’m watching this happen with the boiler company in St Louis. The historically have treated their men superbly and lately have started taking them for granted and they’re beginning to lose some very talented professionals because there’s no shortage of work for people who know how to fabricate metal and weld.
It is a common problem, kind of like dating. When you’re courting one another, there is a lot of attention and whispering sweet nothings. And then the wedding takes place and they each put on 40 pounds and barely grunt at one another on the few occasions they sit down for a meal with one another.
