(From the archives) No one teaches how to find a job. In this video I teach you how to learn what you need to know in order to search for a job well.

Stupid Job Search Mistakes: Wanting It Too Much

Here’s a fact. Job search is hardly ever taught to people yet, it’s one of the most important skills that you’ll need to develop in your career. Because the fact is that you’re going to be changing jobs a bunch of times. Let’s say you’re 22 right now and you have a great run, and you actually work for 10 years at this firm that you just joined. Now it’s time to change again and that happens throughout your career. 10 years with one organization– 30 to 40, to 50, to 62. Four more job changes for you. What do you think the likelihood is that you’re going to last 10 years at this firm? Pretty damn small.

So let’s say last five years (which statistically these days is unlikely but let’s work with that). Eight job changes, I should say, over the course of the next 40 some odd years of your life. Do you think this is important for you to learn, knowing that you’re going to change jobs eight times is going to effect your income and your career happiness? I think so.

Where do you learn about job search? There’s a lot of different places that you can. I’m just going to say that for me,I teach Job Search and I do in a variety of ways. Watch videos that I’ve developed for YouTube. Listen to my podcast, job search radio (discontinued), and No BS Job Search Advice Radio. They’re both in iTunes. They’re both in Stitcher, you can listen to them on the web. Do a Google search for each job search radio, No BS Job Search Advice Radio. You can subscribe to my ezine, No BS Career Advice on LinkedIn. I have all my information aggregated at TheBigGameHunter.us. So that’s a great location for you to learn.

And the ideal thing for you is not to wait until you change jobs or need to change jobs again, to start learning everything. Better do it gradually over time, so you  learn the skills necessary. After all, when you think about the internship that you had in college, when you think about being a junior or an experienced professional, depends on where you are in your career, didn’t you feel like you learned, you knew a lot more a year into the process than at the beginning of that year. Of course. Same thing with job search.

You want to be coalescing all that information, and have it rumble around in your head for years, and then practice aggressively as you get closer to job search time. So I’m going to encourage you to come over to TheBigGameHunter.us Go exploring there. Subscribe to my blog. Information will get delivered to you regularly that’ll help you with job hunting, you’ll even help you with hiring. So again, TheBigGameHunter.us Subscribe to the easy in there.
