How Do You Create a Positive First Impression?
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
LinkedIn offered this thought: “Creating a positive first impression is essential for activating the halo effect and boosting your credibility. You can research the company and the role to show your interest and enthusiasm. Additionally, it’s important to dress professionally and appropriately for the industry and culture, as well as arrive on time and be polite to everyone you meet. Furthermore, communication should be clear and confident, with positive body language and eye contact. Showcase your skills and achievements by using concrete examples and numbers, as well as asking relevant and insightful questions that demonstrate your curiosity and value.”
I commented: “A positive first impression begins way before this. It starts with the school you attended, your grades, and degree. It continues with the brand of the organization you’re working for, how you express yourself in your resume, to demonstrating a track record of success in a role similar to the one they are interviewing you for. Then what you write helps to confirm their projection on you and gives you an advantage over your competitors. Your success in a career starts much earlier than when you walk in the door or log on for a video interview. It reflects how you lived your life before then.”
