Six Questions To Ask In The Interview To Avoid Any Surprises Your First Day On The Job
Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally, because I make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.
If you’re an experienced professional looking for an executive role, but unsure of how to showcase your leadership skills, let me walk you through five things to key in on.
First, quantify your impact when describing your leadership experience, provide quantifiable results that demonstrate your ability to drive success. For instance, instead of simply saying “led a team,” say something like “spearheaded a cross functional team of 15, resulting in a 25% increase in …you get the idea.
Number two, showcase strategic thinking. Executive roles require strategic thinking and vision. Highlight instances where you’ve developed and implemented successful strategies, solved difficult problems or navigated challenging situations. Discuss the thought process behind your decisions and the outcomes achieved.
Third, emphasize team building and mentorship. Leadership isn’t just about authority. It’s about inspiring and empowering others. Share examples of how you’ve built and inspired high performing teams and when necessary, motivated them, fostered collaboration and mentored individuals for professional growth.
Four, demonstrate adaptability, and change management, because in today’s dynamic business landscape, leaders must be adaptable and skilled in change management. Provide examples of how you successfully navigated organizational changes, spearheaded organizational changes, implemented new processes or pivoted strategies in response to market shifts.
Fifth, highlight relevant leadership training and certifications. If you’ve participated in executive leadership programs, obtained relevant certifications or completed advanced degrees, be sure to highlight those accomplishments because they demonstrate your commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
By effectively showcasing your leadership experience, quantifiable results, strategic thinking, team building skills, adaptability and ongoing professional development, you’ll position yourself as a strong person for an executive role.
Remember, leadership is not just about authority, but about inspiring others and driving organizational success.
