Focus Interview Answers on Employer Needs, Not Yours
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
When interviewed, too many people, particularly recent grads, make a critical mistake that turns off employers.
Be Prepared to Walk Away from a Job Offer
Particularly if you’re a recent grad, it’s important to focus your answer on the organization’s needs rather than yours. For example, “what do you know about our firm?”
“Not much.”
“why do you want to work here?”
“Not really sure.”
You know, talk about how you want to put in effort, learn, grow, get ahead. You know, organizations love to hear that kind of stuff. You can always circle back to money later on. You can always circle back to your needs later on.
But initially, make them fall in love with you. Because after all, unless they do, you’re not getting an offer. And answering out of ignorance isn’t going to help you.
