Ask This Question on Your Next Job Interview

Ask This Question on Your Next Job Interview

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

In this video, Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter suggest that you ask this question on your next job interview in order to get a clear idea of your future manager’s priorities.

I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I’m referred to as The Big Game Hunter because I’ve been hunting down leaders and staff for organizations for 40-plus years.

Now, I want to talk with you about a question you can ask on your interview to get a clearer picture of the work that’s going to be done.

Now, I have other videos that deal with some of the good, general, positive types of questions that you can ask. So look for those videos on YouTube or at my website, thebiggamehunter.us.

But I want to give you a new one. I was reading something, and it popped into my mind. So here’s the here’s the question I want you to start asking:

What one thing really needs to get done?

Now, that’s going to give you a sense of a priority, because it goes beyond simply asking, “So, tell me about the job.”

Notice the difference: “Tell me about the job,” and “What one thing really needs to get done by someone in this role?”

I think you’ll recognize that that one thing that really needs to get done is the critical thing. It’s going to be the thing that you’re going to get measured against come review time once you’re on board. It’s the thing that’s the hot button for your hiring manager, the thing that you need to excel at, and the thing that could turn you off.

So it’s better to know about it before you join, rather than after you’ve been on board for a couple of months and it’s too late for you to go, “Oh, man. If I had only known.”

So this is Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I hope you found this video helpful. If you did and you’re watching on YouTube, share it, leave a comment, click the like button. Just do something that lets people know that it was worthwhile.
