Discover Your Personal Brand: A Step-by-Step Guide

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
People tell you that you should build a personal brand but don’t tell you how. This is a step by step guide that explains how to do it.

Personal Branding Shouldn’t Be Neglected

Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter, and people hire me for no BS career advice, and coaching globally. And today, I thought I would do a video about figuring out your personal brand– determine it. Frankly, everyone tells you to build a brand, but they don’t tell you how so no one or few people actually do it. So I thought I would give you some ideas about steps to take, I just want to be clear, you’re gonna have to do some thinking. You’re gonna have to do a little bit of work. It’s not that hard. But you’ve got to take a little bit of time, and then start taking action.

So the first thing is to think about your strengths. What are you naturally good at? What skills and experiences set you apart from others in your field? Determining your strengths can help you focus on areas where you can excel and differentiate yourself.

And then the next thing that cooperates with this is determining your values. What matters most to you? Your values should be at the core of your brand, as much as your strengths and guide your decision-making in interactions with others, because they’re going to be people who are going to try and pull you in different directions from what your core is telling you to do and away from your strengths. Don’t follow their advice. Be smart about this, and identify and use it as the use these as a North Star for your work.

Then from there, determine your goals. What do you want to achieve in your career and personal life? Your personal brand should align with your long-term goals and help you move closer to achieving them.

The Importance Of Personal Branding In The Workplace

And then start thinking about the audience and who you’re trying to reach with your personal brand. Understanding your target audience can help you tailor your messaging and content to resonate with them.

Lastly, started looking at your competition. Look at what other people in your fields are doing and how they position themselves. And thus, once you’re able to figure this out, this can help you identify areas where you can differentiate yourself and stand out.

So once you’ve gone through this, you should have a pretty good idea of your personal brand and be able to articulate it to others. As you heard me say at the beginning, people hire me for no BS career advice and coaching. And that’s a pretty clear statement of what my capabilities are.

So I hope you found this helpful. Take some time to do some work on this. And I have to tell you, you can modify it. This is not being stuck in one model.
