The 10 Most Important Reasons to Build a Personal Brand

Hi. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS career advice. I offer it globally.

Now I call this cultivating your reputation. But if I called it cultivating your branding, you probably wouldn’t watch it. Because reputation and branding to me, for individuals, is very similar. I’m not going to go through the differences; frankly, they’re unimportant. But I’ll just simply say, it’s important for you to have a reputation professionally.

Now, a reputation is the process of actively managing and shaping the way others perceive you. Notice– managing and shaping the way others see you. It’sExecutive interview important to have a clear and consistent message about who you are, and what you stand for professionally, what your beliefs are, what you’re capable of. A strong reputation can help you differentiate yourself in the job market, and make you more attractive potential to potential employers. Now, it needs to be authentic and genuine, reflects your values, skills and experiences. And it has to be something attractive to employers. This takes time and effort and consistency. And if you think about how television commercials work, or how ads on the Internet work, they are repeated, repeated regularly until you associate the brand, the reputation of the product, in a positive way.

Seven Steps To Branding Yourself As An Expert

So for you as an individual, you can do this by your website, by blogging, using social media, to share your thoughts and others’ thoughts, your experiences and insights. It’s important to be active and engaged with your network of relationships, not just simply when you need them but before you need them to have an actual relationship with people. So, again, your reputation needs to be reflected in your voice, and how you present yourself on LinkedIn, on your profile and resume, in all sorts of parameters of relationships that you have. Thus, it’s not about over- promotion. It’s about making sure people know about you, and what you’re capable of so that you become someone that the right people reach out to and you’re seen as an expert in your field, as an individual that others will want to, shall we say, see as an expert and hire as an expert for what you know and  and what you’re capable of. You can be a speaker. You can appear on podcasts. There’s lots of ways that you can do this, including volunteering, or participating in professional organizations. Again, make sure you develop a reputation that reflects you and your values so that this way, when it’s time for opportunities to be responded to, you are advantaged. Th,at’s what your reputation, that’s what your personal brand do for you.
