The Top 10 Reasons You Were Rejected for the Job

Let’s talk about reasons to use a trusted advisor when you’re making a decision about a job offer. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search advice and coaching globally, because I make the entire process so much easier for people, including with salary negotiation.

recruiter on the phone | Jeff Altman, The Big Game HunterNow, when I did recruiting, I filled a lot of positions over my career, and I don’t do that work anymore. I now coach people throughout the lifecycle of their search, and much more. And, I know how difficult a decision it can be. Sometimes, it’s not quite the right money, or the location is imperfect. Or maybe you’ve got two or three offers, that you’re choosing between, and you’re frozen in place and don’t quite know what to do. So I want to give you some advice. Although I offer Trusted Advisor Services, where I answer people’s questions and do stuff like this, it’s not necessarily about me. This is about helping you see the value in using a trusted advisor of your choice to make a decision.

The first reason is, they can provide an objective perspective on the job offer, and help you weigh pros and cons. They’re going to ask you questions that may be different than what you’ve been thinking about up until this point that can help you navigate the situation. And by the way, a trusted adviser could be your wife, husband, partner, someone that you worked with previously, a mentor, anyone who you consider a trusted adviser who could help you is worthwhile for you to talk to

The second reason, they can help you negotiate or give you advice about how to negotiate the terms of the offer, including salary, benefits and other details of the offer, so that you’re not leaving money or opportunity on the table.

A third thing they can do is provide insights into the company culture, work environment, growth within a firm, or give you a better class of question to ask the firm in order to help you decide.

The next thing they can help you do is help you make an informed decision because they may have information about the job market and industry trends and other factors that you may not be considering.

Last oneI’m going to bring up today. It’s the emotional side of this. They can provide emotional support during what is often a very stressful time, and one where you’re afraid of making mistakes.
