You’re Running a Company and One of Your Products is Tanking. What Do You Do?

The correct answer is not, I will repeat, not to say, “Well, I’m going to change jobs!”  You run a company.  You’ve got a responsibility.  This question can be asked of someone who’s running a line of business, is running sales and marketing, is running any number of different functions to see how they respond to a scenario like this.  

But, the long and the short of this is that you are running a company period you can do almost anything.  What do you do?  

The answer is you see if you can look for product line extensions.  You see if there are other things that your product can be sold to do beyond simply what its initial intention was and then, from there, what you trying to do is, overall, reposition the product in a way that satisfies your core customers better.  

So, again, you don’t say something dumb like, “I’m going to change jobs.  This is a big problem.”  What you are going to do is talk creatively about some of the things that your product might also do that no one has thought of, look at whether you can bring that to market quickly while, again, going back to the core group of clients and seeing how the product can serve them better.
