Why Was 1 Person Interviewed and Not the Other?

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
I’ve seen this scenario many times and the answer why one person is interviewed and not the other is very simple.

The First Question You Need to Practice Asking

If two people applied for a job came from the same firm, started on the same day, worked on the same team,  did almost identical work, one person gets interviewed, the other one rejected. Why?

question markI’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS coaching and career advice globally, because I make things so easy for people in their job search, in their careers, the totality of a career.

And the answer is actually pretty simple. And I’ve seen that happen so many times. The answer is well, putting aside the fact that this person made, these people both made the same mistake of applying for a job, which means that we’re going through an applicant tracking system that’s there to reject people, instead of networking their way in,  the reason why one person was interviewed and the other one wasn’t, is the other person didn’t make it clear in their resume, how they fit the role by not putting in all the relevant keywords that reflected their experience.

The person who was interviewed did that. And thus, the system processed them through, recommended them for the interview and they were hired. That happens so often.

And thus, the mistake you make is you can keep sending out the same generic resume over and over again, expecting to get great results. It doesn’t work that way. Job descriptions are not identical. Why are you sending identical resumes? So that’s the reason it happens.
