What’s More Important When Making a Hire?
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
What’s more important when making a hire– a candidate’s CV/experience OR their attitude?
Whenever someone starts a post with this question, I know they are going to conclude by saying that a person’s attitude is more important.
But that is BS.
If a person can’t do the job and creates a job for me to train them, then the answer is their experience (or as asked in the question, their resume [assuming they actually know what they claim])
But they have a bad attitude and have to be pushed to do their work.
That’s why the question is BS. It creates a false dichotomy as though you can only have one and not both. Look for talented people with great attitudes.
Do not evaluate them for fit. You can’t. They are on good behavior and so are you. You are evaluating someone who isn’t themselves and so are they.
Again, hire people with the right skills and a great attitude.
