What Seeds Are You Sowing? | No BS Coaching Advice

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

A friend posted a Facebook message about gardening that was a wonderful question about networking.

My friend, Rowena, posted a message about harvesting.  It’s spring as I record this and she posted a message about some veggies and herbs that she planted that were already bearing fruit.  Her opening statement, “What seeds are you sowing,” got my wheels turning.  It caused me to pause for a second and ask you what seeds are you sowing?

That could be in your business, in your career, in your job search… Are you so immersed in the day-to-day tasks that you forget to plant seeds in order to harvest future crops?

I know for myself, so often I’m responding to different things and other people are controlling my agenda… And I let them.  That’s the truth of it.  They don’t control my agenda.  I will let them.  As a result, sometimes I don’t remember to plant seeds for future harvest.

Are you like me who, when I get into that kind of turmoil and allow myself to be distracted with the sort of things?  What can you do to carve out time and reconnect, to network, to do forward-thinking activities that will generate crops for you later on.

One thing per day.  Just do one thing per day.  Get into that habit.  Maybe you will do two!  Initially, start with one thing they can yield the results that you want, not simply now but in the future, too.  If it’s a phone call, reconnect with people that you haven’t spoken with in years.

Re-cultivate (notice the planting and farming theme here)  the relationship.  If you’re not sure how to do it, take a little time to think each day.  15 minutes is the starting place.  Just do some things to play jobs in your career and in your life that you can harvest later.
