People often go into their job search, like petulant children.  They decide that they had enough working where they are, they are bored, they are angry and say, "I have had it!"  Then, they go off job hunting. There is a lot missing before that emotional response and the action that you should take.

The 1st thing is deciding what's going to be important you and you next job organization. What will you need to see her here to believe it's a good choice for you?  You need to figure out what that next step should do for you and resolve you.  How do you wanted to advance your career. What sort of steppingstone you want to achieve from this next position.

Without that, all you are doing is lurching from job to job, allowing others to sexually ambition for you.  You are allowing others to decide how they are going to use you and not deciding what is going to be important for you.

That's really a missing piece for a lot of people.  Job hunting involves doing things that will advance your career because, at the end of the day, does your employer really care about you?  Oh, I know your immediate manager is going to say all sorts of wonderful things like, "Your terrific!  You're wonderful!"  However, the real decision-makers, the ones 13 levels up from your manager, don't really care. You're just another working on the automated spreadsheet of their organization.  Another person in their HR system when the recession comes, you could be *!@# out of luck, if you know what I mean who then write checks to.

You have to plan and manage your career as smartly as they do their organization.  Think of yourself as being the head of a company, deciding what you want to date.  You are the person up high looking down on you.  Figure out what's important to you.

You also need to think of what resources you have that can help you get there?  Yes, there are job boards, but that shouldn't be your entire strategy.  Yes, there are recruiters and that shouldn't be your entire strategy either, nor should those to be the only things that you execute because recruiters and job boards only fill a finite number of jobs.

The statistics show that networking helps fill far more positions, more than double the positions that those two do.  You need to think strategically of what resources you have and who they might be able to introduce you to who can be helpful to you.  And do those people can introduce you to and you can become involved with, that can be helpful to you and your career and how you can create an image for yourself and brand for yourself… You see where I'm going with this?

Bigger picture 1st, before you start running around like and not to get yourself an interview because you want to get out of there already.  Don't kid yourself. This work is far more important than just running around purposelessly.  When you start running around acting like a petulant child, you expend a lot of pointless energy. You need to start up here 1st. In order to figure out where you want to get to.
