Try This to Get Job Leads
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
People spend too much time chasing job ads and should be doing more of this. With kudos to @Paul Cecala, a NJ-based career coach.
He originally wrote, “Try this reverse engineering tactic to find target companies – go to your network, and explain the type of role/company/company culture you’re looking for. See what they say and research those companies! They know you best and might even get to be a referral.”

Try this idea to find target companies to contact. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS coaching career advice globally, because I make things so much easier for people with regard to job search, hiring more effectively, managing and leading better, and so much more.
Now, instead of trying to find companies that are hiring, start by reaching out to your network of professional contacts, such as colleagues, mentors, friends and family members. They know you, will understand your strengths and career aspirations, and usually can offer insights into the types of companies that will be a good fit for you.
You can share with them the type of role, company, and culture you’re looking for, and ask for recommendations. Once you have a list of potential companies, research each one to determine if they align with your interests and hopefully, your values and if values is not important to you, don’t worry about it.
Look at their websites, social media presence, reviews and news articles to get a better understanding of them and the work environment. Reach out to employees of the firm on LinkedIn to learn more about their experiences of working there.
In addition to researching companies, consider reaching out to your network for referrals. They may be able to introduce you to someone within the company who can provide additional information, or better yet help you get an interview. Overall, this is a tactic that works very well for identifying the right companies to work for.
Thus, by leveraging your network, researching potential companies, and looking for ,referrals from people who know you, I should say, like you, trust you, and respect you, you can increase your chances of finding a company that aligns with your goals and your aspirations.
