There Has Never Been a September Surge

If you take your cues from TikTok and one particular person, you are hearing about The September Surge! It has never existed. Never has. But a few media outlets and the freelancers who write for them have picked up on this debunked idea because it generated clicks on TikTok. They wanted clicks, too.
Here’s the problem. Calendar-year companies finalize their budgets in October for the next year. If there is going to be a surge (and I don’t think there will be) it will be next month once budgets are set for 2024.
Most firms froze hiring, and limited consultant and temp utilization until they have a better idea of the economy and (maybe) 2024 Presidential politics.
Beginning in October, you may see a trickle of jobs, consulting, and temp assignments re-opening.
Are you seeing evidence of a September surge in hiring or more of the people grinding their wheels?
