I’ve interviewed 10s of thousands of people and found there’s one tactic that works better than almost everything else.

What’s The Statute of Limitations on Mistakes?

Other than the obvious that you can answer the questions, what makes an interview successful? I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally because I make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.

I’ve interviewed thousands of people. First as a recruiter, now as a coach. And one thing I can spot right away is the people who turn the interview into something more conversational rather than formal are far more effective. Why? Because you’re connecting with people at a human level and taking it beyond simply the business.

Now I’m not telling you to laugh and crack jokes or anything along those lines, but there’s a way of communicating that’s really very effective where you as a person being interviewed can turn this into a conversation where you can ask follow-up questions in response to their questions that makes it effective. I’ll just simply say again, the people who do that tend to be far more successful than the ones who come across as stiff. Stiff candidates, stiff people on interviews, don’t do as well as those who can switch into something conversational.
