Looking for a new job can be one of the most stressful experiences of our lives. It’s easy to get caught up in negative thoughts and self-doubt, especially when you’re getting rejected without an interview, especially when you’re getting rejected after an interview. But did you know that positive self-talk can make a significant impact on your job search?

Conversation Starters When Networking

I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS coaching and career advice globally, because I helped make things so much easier for people with regard to a job search, hiring more effectively, managing and leading better, dealing with workplace issues.

ManBy consciously choosing to focus on positive thoughts and affirmations. You can shift your mindset and increase your confidence and motivation. Positive self-talk can help reframe negative thoughts into more positive ones. So here are five things you can do that will help you develop this attitude.

And I want to be clear. You can’t just do this once. This has to be a repetitive behavior. You’ve had a lifetime of self-criticism. It’s going to take time to reprogram yourself into a different belief.

So the first thing is, of course, reframing negative thoughts into positive ones. When you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, try reframing them into positive ones. Instead of “I’m not qualified for this job, try,  “I have transferable skills that would make me a great fit for this position. Or I’m qualified for this job, and my skills and experience might be a great fit. Easy, right?

Number two is believing in yourself. It’s essential during a job search to believe in yourself. When we believe in ourselves, we’re more likely to take a few risks and apply for jobs that might feel like a stretch. This can lead to more opportunities, and a more fulfilling or a more fulfilling career path. Remember, you have unique skills and experiences that make you stand out from other people. Bring those to the fore because it will make a difference.

Number three is visualize your success. Visualization is a very powerful tool that to help you achieve your goals. Visualizing success is another powerful technique that positive self-talk can help with. By envisioning or imagining ourselves succeeding in a job search and picturing yourself in a new job, you’re more likely to take action that aligns with those goals. This can lead to a sense of focus, and purpose during your job search. Take a few moments each day and visualize yourself in your new job. Picture yourself succeeding and feeling fulfilled and happy.

Number four is use affirmations. They are a simple but powerful tool that helps you shift your mindset and boost your confidence and stay focused on your goals. They can also help reprogram your subconscious mind which is responsible for your automatic, I shouldn’t say, beliefs and behaviors. It’s heavily influenced by your self-talk. Thus, using affirmations can build confidence and overcome self-doubt. Write down a few affirmations that resonate for you and save them to yourselves each day.

Lastly, surround yourself with positivity. The people you surround yourself with can have a great impact on your mindset. Surrounding yourself with positivity and supportive people can make a huge difference in your job search. By seeking out friends, family, and mentors who uplift and encourage us, we’re more likely to maintain a positive mindset and stay focused and motivated during the ups and downs of the job search.

So just to sum up, by implementing various forms of positive self-talk, you can transform your job search from a stressful experience into one that feels great and empowered. Believing in yourself, visualizing success, using affirmations, and surrounding yourself with positivity will help you a lot. Remember, you have the power to create your own success.
