Stagnant
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
There are days when you wake up and realize how stagnant you are.
The Poet, Rumi, and Your Career
Stagnant. Like a body of water, it becomes still and motionless. Stuck in place. Dead. Standing. Static. Slow moving. Lethargic. Does that fit for you at this point? Has your work or your
life gotten so stagnant that there’s really . . . like you get up in the morning and go to work and come home? You watch TV, you go to sleep, rinse and repeat it over and over again. Does that fit for you?
And if it does, how does it feel? Do you like that feeling? Because most people I know don’t. There’s a point where they wake up, and they realize “this sucks.” I want to encourage you, . . . you know, one of the things that you can do is not look to your employer because your employer doesn’t really give a damn. What you need to do is look to yourself and mobilize some energy. Get back into school; do some stuff. Get your Mojo going again. Work out. Do something. Get in motion because, for so many folks, when you’re not in motion and you get static, you’re like that stagnant definition I was reading off earlier.
Is that the way you want to live your life? Seriously, is that the way you want to live your life? Even if you’ve got to pay some money to do this, find ways to get into motion up here in your head, and in your body, as well. You will feel so much better, you’ll get so much more energized, you’ll feel so much better about yourself. It will change a lot for you.
Where you take this newfound energy, I have no idea that’s going to be up to you. I know, for myself, and the times in my life where I’d made changes like this, where I’ve gotten into the gym, where I’ve gone to grad school, where I’ve gone to coach training, I’ve really gotten myself going, I was working incredibly hard because, you know, being a headhunter and going to a master’s program . . . not an easy thing to do.
Being a career leadership coach, going for coach training . . . not an easy thing to do. There is a lot of work that goes into it and a lot of effort that goes into both parts of this to become good.
Get out there. You will be astonished at how much you can accomplish and how that gets your mojo working again.
