Should I Follow My Passion That Won’t Pay Much or Take a Job I Don’t Want?

Should I Follow My Passion That Won’t Pay Much or Take a Job I Don’t Want?

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

Another way of saying it is, “should I take a job I hate or one I would love?”

The Thrill Is Gone

Here is my perspective on whether you should follow your passion, even if it won’t pay much or take a high paying job you won’t want. I know you want to have the answer for today but I want you to think bigger picture.Changing careers

What’s going to happen next for you? Ultimately, you are going to want to change jobs from both. Here’s why i say that. You are ultimately going to want to change jobs from both  because if you can’t afford to be in the passion job, you will need to change jobs. If you are going to loathe the one you really don’t want to do, you are going to eventually want to change jobs from that.

What’s the next thing for you should be how you frame your thinking.?

If you decide that the career path for you from the passion profession is the one that makes sense for you, go for it. You probably don’t know the answer to that; you will probably need t do informational interviews and get a lot of advice and ask a lot of questions in order to feel more certain and secure about whatever decision you make.

Same with the position you don’t really care for–you need to quickly do some informational interviews and talk to people who know the kind of work that you would be doing who could give you a real feel for what the next step for you would be if you take that job.

Again, there is no way to really know the answer unless you go a little bit deeper and think about the next step for you and whether this is a career that you really want to follow or not.
