Sell Yourself Like the Hottest Product on the Market

Interviewing for a job is like a salesperson pitching a product. You need to convince the employer that you are the right choice to meet their needs, just as a 
salesperson highlights why their product is the best option for the customer.
Do your research beforehand so you can effectively sell your abilities, just as a salesperson would learn about their product’s features. What can you offer that matches what the employer is looking for in the role and at the company? What sets you apart from other candidates?
Have examples ready that showcase your key skills and achievements. Don’t just say you have strong organizational skills – prove it by sharing a story of when those skills made you successful. Specific examples and proof points strengthen your sales pitch.
Carefully read the job posting multiple times. Make note of keywords and requirements emphasized in the description. Identify what skills and traits the employer likely needs to excel in this role, even if not explicitly stated.
Match your offerings to their stated and unstated needs. Show how your product – you and your unique combination of qualities and experiences – can fulfill what they are seeking in the ideal candidate.
Beyond just job qualifications, highlight personal traits that emphasize you will fit into the team and organizational culture. Areas like work ethic, attitude, and willingness to collaborate matter.
With preparation, you can effectively sell your product – you! Convince the interviewer that your mix of skills, experiences, and fit make you the top choice for the role. Leave them feeling confident you are exactly what they need to meet their hiring needs.
