I was working with someone today and helping them get ready for an interview. Now everyone knows to go to LinkedIn; everyone knows to Google. Uh, but I came up with a different approach, which is I’m just going to share it with you. I’m Jeff Altman, the Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search advice and career coaching globally because I make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.
So I went to ChatGPT instead of doing the usual Google or LinkedIn search, and I entered this in: “Act as a researcher investigating [name of the person] who was the chairman of a a real estate firm,” and I mentioned them by name. Let me take this from the top: “Act as a researcher investigating [name of the person] at [name of the company]. Give me a deep dive into their background and that of the company.” So I put the company name in there. ChatGPT came up with a good search.
Now I’ll simply say, one of the things that they did was go through the different departments, and they used different resources beyond simply LinkedIn and the company website, although I must in all candor say a lot of the the data was on the websites. The good thing is, even if all the results came from a website, from their website, or from LinkedIn, it’s consolidated in one place, processed, and then from there they gave me an option. I just want to read the choice they gave me, uh, at the end of the initial search. It was first a summary of each, and then it says, “Let me know if you want to drill deeper into specific deals, team structure, or how they compared to peers.” Again, think of it from the standpoint of you’re doing your homework. It’s consolidated in one place and allows you to find information about someone you’re interviewing with, the firm they work for, and much more. And by the way, when I did the deep dive into their background and structure, they referenced the org.com, which is a site with org structures.
