As I watched a restaurant restoration show, a designer confidently puts his foot down to say, “I won’t do this. I have a reputation to uphold.”
Famous last words.
As to patrons left the restaurant, they discovered what paint on their clothing from where it had not dried on the chairs he had painted and insisted would dry on time.
You don’t know everything although you know a lot.
Listen to different opinions.
Reputation is something that you have constructed for yourself based upon your previous experiences and can be lost in a moment as his was lost on national TV because the painting dry on time.
He was wrong.
I have been wrong and others have been right.
I suspect the same has been true of you, too.
What might have happened had he listened to the host of the show and not thought about his “reputation.” Maybe he would still be on air 10+ years later and had a reputation as has developed for the people who have replaced him.
Remember to listen and think before speaking. Remember to take a moment before refusing and threatening to walk out.
After all, if you walk out, there’s no turning back, is there?
