Recession-proofing your career involves difficult choices. When you look at what happens during times when firms are making staff cuts, it seems like the people who manage people who do stuff are most affected.
Thus, if you want to recession-proof your career, look at the tasks that you manage. Are you up to speed with that? Can you actually do the function? That helps you sell within the organization your relevance, and if you’re cut, it helps you get back to work more quickly, because firms will value people who do stuff more than people who manage people who do stuff. That will help you ride out any hurricanes professionally.
