Recession-proofing your career could exist within your own organization. What do I mean? How do you survive the rounds of layoffs? The answer is take on more work that’s noticeable by leadership.

For example, you work in HR. Can you take on a chief of staff role for a senior leader and support them? They’re been paying one person to do two jobs. You can ride through a storm like that.

Can you take on more visible work so that people notice you? That can help you ride through a storm. Concurrently, you have to still do things to support yourself and look for other options in case the rug gets pulled out from under you. But don’t neglect networking. Make yourself more visible.
