Recession-Proofing Your Career: Don’t Act Like an Old-Timer | JobSearchTV.com
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
A mistake people make when they should be recession-proofing their career is acting like an old-timer.
Recession-Proofing Your Career: Don’t Over-Emphasize the Strategic
One of the mistakes people make when they have to recession-proof their career is they act like the old-timers. ‘That’ll never work.’ ‘Yeah, nothing like that’s ever worked before.’ You know, and they act like grouchy, grumpy people. They’re the voice of doom, rather than the vanguard of change.
Instead of acting like the person who’s been sitting there collecting dust for 20 years, be a vanguard of change. Be someone who supports leadership and if you disagree, say ‘Can I meet with you privately? I have a couple of questions about this decision. It may not change anything, but I want to understand better.’

Yes, be a Vanguard of change, but be a Vanguard of proper change, and not just change for changes sake. Doing something different just to do something different without regard to the results is what got us needing change in the first place. That’s my opinion, and you can take it or leave it.
No argument from me about your name. Forrest Gump put it well—“Stupid is as stupid does.” Pointless changes are a waste. Thanks for encouraging me to clarify.
