Recession-Proofing Your Career: Can You Help Your Organization to Be More Wolf-Like? | JobSearchTV.com

Firms are about to shift to looking for people who can take someone else’s lunch. This isn’t just about salespeople. It’s about an attitude shift.

Recession-Proofing Your Career: Recommendations

Hi. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS career advice, which can involve job search, hiring more effectively, managing and leading better, and much more.

This topic is going to be a little provocative. And I’ll just simply say, as I’m recording this at the end of 2022, everyone knows a recession is coming and there’s still this go along with what’s happening and kind of mellow environment, even though firms are starting to cut back on people and reduce spending.

The issue for me is, you know, how do you switch your organization from going along with things to being more like a wolf where you’re going to take from others, take business from others? How can you bring the ferocity back into your organization? I’m not talking about, you know, cutthroat stuff internally.  I’m talking about going out aggressively for business. And how do you position your department, your team, and your group, to be more fierce in its operation, to look to take from other firms what they have, or as the old phrase would be, take their lunch from them, so that you can feast and they can starve?

We’re about to enter dog eat dog times and with that, being nice, isn’t going to cut it. As a result, how can you move your organization, knowing that there’s a recession coming, into more ferocity, more aggressiveness, more taking from others than just simply gradually moving along?

As leaders, if you can start answering that question on your interviews that’s important to you. Even internally within your firm, how can you drive your organization to shift its attitude to become leaner, more hungry, more aggressive to go out there and take other people’s lunch?
