Reality and Belief | No BS Coaching Advice

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

I discuss the nature of reality.

Changing The Dialogue

How is it possible that you as someone else can digest the same information and come up with radically different opinions?

How is it possible that you can see yourself one way and everyone else around you can see you differently? Now, let me use the first example.

Each of you has a belief that, on a deep level, you kind of weigh and measure and have, like a computer system, digested in order to deal with this identical information and come up with a different conclusion. They may weight certain variables one way; you may weight them differently. As a result, you come up with a different opinion.

Now, let me talk about another scenario. That’s the one where you see yourself one way and other people see you completely differently. Yeah, this one’s interesting. Yeah, you can claim, “Well, they only have they have incomplete information. They don’t know me as well as I do. And I’m pretty much useless loser who . . . ”  You can go on with self critical information. Ultimately, they’ve digested information about you and they’ve come up with a completely different opinion.

Now, “reality” is based upon belief. Our reality is constructed from countless situations that we’ve had in our life, all the inputs that we’ve experienced, and take it in, digested, processed (to use the computer metaphor) and come up with a conclusion. But like a computer system, sometimes the output is wrong, because the program is defective in some way.

Yeah, one of the ways to defeat the programming is you can have tech support person in and they work on the system, they get the viruses out and work on debugging, all the Trojans and all the viruses and all the defects and leave you as a person who feels great and can go out and attack these same situations because you have faith in yourself.

That’s really what’s often needed . . . is good tech support.

Now I do coaching and working with a coach like athletes to help them perform at peak levels. Yes, some people become champions. Some people need more coaching. They don’t execute plays, their head is off. There’s a lot of stuff that goes wrong, but at the end of the day, coaching yields particular outcomes.
