By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

A Canadian online publication called Saltwire.com published a piece called “JOB SEARCH: Create your own luck — Good jobs do not magically fall into some people’s hands, though it sometimes seems like that.”

Good jobs do not magically fall into some people’s hands, though it sometimes seems like that. The writer, Nick Kossovan, discussed the importance of actively creating opportunities for oneself during a job search.

He argues that while some people seem to have “good luck” in landing their next job, the reality is that most successful job seekers actively create their own luck by networking, building skills, and being persistent in their search.

The article provides tips and strategies for job seekers to take control of their job search, including setting goals, creating a targeted resume and cover letter, and utilizing online resources to research potential employers.

It recommends constructive self-promotion, being charismatic by

  1. Embracing small talk.
  2. Listening with intent.
  3. Making eye contact.
  4. Asking questions

In addition, they develop a personal brand/reputation and position themselves as an SME (subject matter expert) and actively network

Ultimately, the article emphasizes the importance of taking a proactive approach to the job search process in order to increase one’s chances of success.
