Is It Hard to Find a Job During a Recession? | JobSearchTV.com

Recruiters Are Not Your Friends

Is it hard to find a job during a recession? The short answer is, it depends. People who have tremendously in demand skills, may even find it a little harder to find a job because there may be fewer firms that are in need of those skills because there’s less turnover with those organizations. They may be doing fewer new projects that might call in those skills. So if you’ve got one of those high demand skills, it may take a little bit longer.

However, if you’re the average individual who has average skills, average in demand skills, it slows down for you. That’s the reality. Fewer firms are hiring and they take longer in the process. Is it hard to find a job during a recession? Of course, it is. You know, unemployment is higher. There’s more competition for jobs. It slows down. So, yes, for every one, it’s harder to find a job during a recession. That doesn’t mean that you can’t find one. But it takes longer.

Thus, if you have any sort of a concern now that you might get laid off or your firm is going to go through tough times. This is the time to start conserving capital, so that you have more financial staying power without panicking yourself into a role that you don’t want to take.

Someone asked me whether I thought it was harder to find a job during a recession. These are my thoughts.
