In the Wheelhouse | Career Angles

“In the Wheelhouse:” the part of a batter’s strike zone most likely to produce a home run.
To that, I’ll add something that helps you produce you best outcome.
Unfortunately, many of us spend a lot of time doing things that are outside of our Wheelhouse (an area that matches a person’s skills or expertise).
Why is that?
Should we spend a lot of time working on things that we are less able at that will sap our energy in the hopes that we get better at it or focus on things for which we are ready world-class?
It’s a difficult question but if you’re in leadership, you have more choices.
When you’re a staff level, unfortunately, you have little flexibility. You’re given the message to “suck it up,” and do what’s necessary to get the job done.
Where you can, focus your energy on the things for which are exceptional and less on the things that other people do better than you. Let them do it.
The results will be better for the organization, you, and them, as well.
