As you know, the likelihood of you getting this job is small.. After all, you’re underqualified. How do you present yourself at the interview for maximum benefit?
I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I coach people. I do career coaching,
helping organizations with hiring more effectively, people with job search,
helping leaders manage and lead better. A question I received from someone
basically involved them being under qualified for a job that they were
interviewing for. What are some tips?. Number one is don't lie because they'll
figure out pretty quickly that you're lying. So, let's save that one. Next thing
is to understand what it is that they're looking for. They're looking for someone
that they can trust. If you come in and basically say and present yourself in a
way like that, they're not going to trust you, right? They're not going to want
to hire you because they recognize you don't feel confident. So number one is
speak with an air of authority to you.. Number two is if they ask you about a
subject that you don't have a lot of experience with, tell them exactly what
you know and what you've done.. Period. It's really that simple. Never
never BS because all that happens is you get hired and then you fail. Now, what
happens when you fail? You get fired. I know you don't want that. So the two
points I'm making here are, number one, carry yourself with confidence so that
they trust you. Number two is speak with authority so
that they feel more comfortable with you.. Remember, part of the interview is about.
the relationship that you demonstrate with the people that you talk to. Do you
appear confident or not? Do you appear smart or not? What do they like and how can you
connect with them as people because again, connecting with them as people
elicits trust. When firms hire, competence is only one thing that they look
for. Self-confidence, character, chemistry, maybe a little bit of charisma because
charismatic people always do better than noncharismatic people. All of which adds up to
the trust factor. And fundamentally you know you're walking into a minefield
because you're not qualified. So let's not kid ourselves. There's no magic. If
they want a fifteen-year person and you've got six, you are too junior for them
and the probability is that you don't have any experiences in that role that
they want. However, at least doing it my way
gives you a shot. I'm Jeff Altman. Hope you found this helpful. Visit
