I'm Jeff Altman, The Big game Hunter. I'm the head coach for JobSearchCoachinghq.com. And welcome to another one of my videos about job hunting, which I tend to do daily.

And this one, you know, it's stated declaratively. I need a recruiter to find me a job. Implied is where do I find one? And the answer is not one that's any good. And let me explain why.

Recruiters don't work for you. They work for corporations. Corporations spend 1000s of dollars, 10s of 1000s of dollars to pay a fee to a recruiter once they fill a job. And I'm working with contingency recruiters because normally the person who's asking this question, wants a contingency recruiter, someone who works at a job at their level. The retained search firms, they're working with candidates who make a lot more money than this person and thus their fees are even more.

But you know, $100,000 person can generate a fee of 20, 25, 30000 or more. And you're gonna pay that to a recruiter to find you a job?

"Well, if they find me a job, I'll pay it."

And how are they going to collect it?

"Well, if they find me a job, I will pay it?"

No, you won't. And they're going to have to sue. You can maybe throw $1,000, 2000, $5000. And then they have to first deal with collecting it from you. They have to first deal with finding a company that wants your skills versus they already have the job from the client. The client, you know the one who's going to pay them five or 10 times what you are. And if you were them in that position, who would you work for? You? I don't think so.

I think you'd worked for the institution that pays them a lot more money. Because of the speculative nature of recruiting, you'd rather at least leverage your knowledge and talents to get the bigger fee than the chump change from you, that allows them to first start the aggravation process of trying to collect the money from you.
