How to Write a Bad Sales Résumé

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter explains what not to do in your resume for a sales position.

Breaking The Conditioning To Be Mediocre

Jeff Altman, the big game hunter and I
want to talk with you today about not
looking like a loser if your salesroom
now I got a resume today that spells out
beautifully how to look badly on paper
if your salesroom let me read the
section of the resume so this is for
someone who works in retail sales than
working for a wireless vendome this is
what they write ready memorize and
accurately pitch our best deals and
products maintain the entire store clean
and presentable trusted with store keys
alarm and safe deposit code required to
open and close the store when scheduled
and deposit large amounts of cash from
our registers to the safe when needed
great what’s missing from them resume
answer sales they say to a sales rep and
he’s nothing about selling except that
they memorized speeches they don’t talk
numbers they don’t talk about how many
deals they close how what they closed
compared with what other people in that
store closed or how many people in the
district they outperform or how many
people nationally they outperform it’s
more about maintaining a retail space
than closing deals so if you’re in sales
you have to always think of yourself is
being in competition you’re competing
with other sales performance you’re
competing them look like a top performer
all right so don’t worry nonsense like
this give people metrics give people
real numbers of how you performed and
that’s going to dictate whether or not
whether you’re a top performer a
middle-of-the-pack individual or just
another loser like this one is so this
