Communicate frequently and transparently
Showcase your employer brand and value proposition
Engage your candidates with relevant content and activities
Solicit and act on candidate feedback
Follow up and nurture your candidates
Stupid Hiring Mistakes: Not Preparing or Coaching Hiring Managers
I commented, “Pick up the pace of your process. I am not saying that you should hire someone for the sake of hiring someone. When you interview, identify people who are qualified. Reject everyone else. Make a decision to hire or not. If you don’t want to hire them, communicate the decision. Get everyone on the same page about criteria to evaluate for BEFORE people start interviewing to avoid mixed messages that turn off qualified people. Make a decision within 2 weeks of meeting someone. If you revise your requirements, reinterview people who you previously found acceptable instead of summarily rejecting them. Make a decision instead of stringing people along waiting for the super-candidate that never shows up. No one is perfect. Not you or your new hire.”
