How to Make a Strong Impression Networking on LinkedIn |

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

I find messaging on LinkedIn is boring and does little to help you stand out, particularly when you’re networking and connecting. Here are 2 tools to make you stand out in a good way.

Personal Branding on LinkedIn

LinkedIn messaging has gotten a lot better. And if you’re trying to connect with people and develop relationships, you can write messages or use things like text expanders that . . . you’re just sending more text, and creating more work for other people to create more text. And if you’re trying to network, I think, frankly, text gets boring pretty fast. So what can you do instead?

There are two things I found that have helped me a lot. Number one is a Chrome extension called drift video, D-R-I- video. Once you have it in Chrome, it will log into messaging and position itself there as an option. And thus you can, because it’s a video recorder and screen recorder, you can send short videos to people.

For example, if people reach out to me and connect, I respond with a video that says, “hey, thanks for reaching out to connect. I’m curious, what prompted you to do so? Was I recommended by LinkedIn, have you seen some of my content. I’m curious. nd I see a few more things. But video is different.

Now some of you are going to say ‘I don’t want to do video.’ Audio is another option. And on the LinkedIn app on your phone, if you send a message to someone, you’ll notice right to the right of the text bar. In messaging on the LinkedIn mobile app, at least on iPhone, you’ll see a microphone icon. If you press that icon, it will record up to one minute of audio. You can send multiple audios that they can hear your voice, they can hear that you’re normal, they can hear that you aren’t another weird person. And that can help you stand out in a good way from all the other messages that people get.
